Gary Community School Corporation

Gary Community School partnered with 1st Maker Space to install twelve makerspaces, STEM labs, robotics labs, and innovation spaces across McCullough Academy, Bailly STEM Academy, Glen Park Academy, Beveridge Elementary School, Banneker, Daniel Hale Williams Elementary School, and West Side Leadership Academy. These state-of-the-art learning spaces were designed to fit inside of the existing buildings, and instead of only one makerspace, teachers at these schools will have access to several different spaces for project-based and hands-on learning experiences.

McCullough Academy

McCullough Academy, located in Gary, IN, is home to an amazing makespace and passionate educators that care deeply about hands-on learning. Through an engaging STEM class, students are learning to code, creating 3D printed prototypes, diving into career exploration and having fun in their makerspace.

Beveridge Elementary School

Beveridge Elementary is a small school with a big heart, and their STEM team wanted to create a library makerspace, robotics lab, and design thinking lab to enhance current STEM efforts.

Led by co-principals Naomi Kinsey and Dr. Tyneasha Banks, Beveridge Elementary has embraced STEM through hands-on learning. The challenge? Make education more engaging and relevant. When they partnered with 1st Maker Space, the goal was clear: create a space where kids can explore, fail, and succeed. The result? A community of learners excited to come to school every day. This is about more than just the tools or the tech. It’s about watching students become creators and thinkers, confidently tackling real-world problems. And the teachers? The makerspace helps them rediscover the joy of teaching.

Banneker at Marquette

Under the leadership of Principal Chaitra Wade, Banneker has established a makerspace to provide all students with engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. The space includes a dedicated area for daily use of technology and STEM kits, as well as a versatile meeting area within the library. The staff is enthusiastic about incorporating this new equipment and guiding students toward a STEM-focused future.

Daniel Hale Williams Elementary

Williams Elementary in Gary, IN has unveiled a brand-new makerspace designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and innovation among its students. This hands-on learning environment equips students with access to cutting-edge tools and technology, including robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting, and the Cricut. The makerspace will serve as a hub for exploration and problem-solving, empowering students to develop critical STEM skills through engaging, project-based learning experiences.

Glen Park Academy

Glen Park Academy implemented a library collaboration space, makerspace, robotics lab, and STEM lab to enhance and support current efforts to apply content through project-based and STEM learning experiences.

Bailly STEM Academy

Bailly STEM Academy was recently STEM Certified by the Indiana Department of Education as a STEM Certified School. Because of the unique amount of hands-on learning taking place daily at Bailly, our team renovated spaces to create a main makerspace, library makerspace and collaboration area, 6th grade makerspace, robotics lab, and computer science lab.
