Switzerland County School Corporation went all-in on maker education to provide equity for all students. Starting with a Digital Learning Grant from the Indiana Department of Education, Switzerland County focused first on professional development and creating a shared vision for their maker education initiative. Next, 1st Maker Space developed a proposal for three makerspaces for Jefferson-Craig Elementary, Switzerland County Elementary, and Switzerland County Middle School. The two elementary schools contained the same list of furniture, equipment, and supplies but were designed to be unique to the culture of each building. Switzerland County invested in the TeacherGeek Maker Cart 2.0 to provide engineering and STEM activities for all students K-8. Each student will be doing at least two projects in the makerspace in 2022! Switzerland County is now seeking to develop a makerspace at the high school to create engaging learning opportunities for students in grades 9-12.
