On December 4, 2025, School City of Hammond partnered with 1st Maker Space to host their first-ever official School Maker Faire, an event that brought together creativity, innovation, and community in an unforgettable celebration of student learning. As our inaugural Maker Faire collaboration, this event marked an exciting milestone—both for our team and for the educators, students, and families who made it a success.

A Showcase of Student Ingenuity
The Maker Faire movement is built on the idea that students learn best by doing—exploring ideas, building solutions, and sharing their creations with the world. School City of Hammond embraced this spirit wholeheartedly. Their official School Maker Faire brought together student makers from across the district, each showcasing projects that demonstrated curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on skill.
From robotics and engineering builds to artistic creations, interactive demonstrations, and imaginative prototypes, the Faire offered a vibrant snapshot of the innovative learning happening every day in Hammond’s classrooms and makerspaces.

A Community Energized by Making
Families, educators, and community members filled the space, engaging with student presenters and celebrating their hard work. Teachers shared their pride in seeing students take ownership of their learning, and visitors were quick to comment on the creativity and enthusiasm on display.

For many students, the Maker Faire was more than just an exhibition—it was an opportunity to present their ideas to a real audience, build confidence, and recognize themselves as designers, builders, and problem-solvers.

A Model for Future Maker Faires
As our first event of this kind, the School City of Hammond Maker Faire demonstrated what is possible when districts commit to empowering students through hands-on learning. With full Maker Faire registration and support from 1st Maker Space, the event served as a model that other schools and districts can follow.

Our team collaborated closely with Hammond educators to plan, organize, and bring the event to life. The result was a smooth, high-impact experience that highlighted both the students’ achievements and the value of integrating maker education into school communities.
Looking Ahead
We are excited to continue expanding School Maker Faires across the region. The success of School City of Hammond’s event shows how powerful these celebrations can be in strengthening student agency, building community engagement, and showcasing the outcomes of high-quality maker education.
To our partners at School City of Hammond: thank you for your leadership, your collaboration, and your commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students. A special thank you to Alex Cerajewski, Instructional Coach at Morton High School, who made all of the details for the event happen. When asked about the event, Alex said: “The Maker Faire helped celebrate the great skills and creativity that our students have here in our community of Hammond. It was incredible to see so many schools, staff, students, and families come together under one roof to be one SCH and one Hammond.” This event set the bar high, and we look forward to supporting many more districts in hosting their own School Maker Faires.
