Oldenburg Academy started with the “why”. While surveying outgoing seniors, the administrative team at Oldenburg uncovered that students wanted to apply what they had learned during their time at Oldenburg to prepare them for the real world. The team then called 1st Maker Space to bring learning to life. An old Spanish classroom is now home to the StudiOA Makespace, a place where students can come to design, make, and apply what they have learned throughout their school day. This high school makerspace has the capacity for students to design, make, and collaborate all within the makerspace through purposefully designed seating, fabrication equipment (including a 100 W. Laser Cutter and Inventor IISE 3D Printers), a variety of tools, and storage for current projects. The local maker manager and science teacher, Shane, recently graduated from the 1st Maker Space Maker Manager Program and trains teachers on how to use the makerspace across the curriculum.
